FAQs
Do you teach classes?
This is definitely the question I get asked most often! After a many-year hiatus, I plan on offering a handful of tanning classes in 2026. The best way to stay up to date around this is to sign up for my mailing list.
What can you use a sheepskin for?
Anything you want! I have used mine as a sleeping pad for camping, a sitting pad (for nights around the fire, tea parties, concerts, gatherings, guest seats when I run out of chairs, beach trips, river trips, etc), a dog bed, a mattress, a decorative rug or throw, for lounging on in front of a wood stove, or for craft projects. In my opinion, they are as useful as they are beautiful.
Can you wash a sheepskin?
Yes! These sheepskins are all washable. I recommend hand washing with a mild, unscented soap (a friend of mine just used eucalan wool wash to wash a sheepskin she purchased from me—she said it turned out exceptionally soft. I’ve never used this particular soap, but I’m excited to try it) and laying flat to dry (give it a few tugs throughout the drying process to make sure the hide doesn’t dry stiff). If you’re feeling brave, you can throw it in your machine and wash cold on the gentle cycle and tumble dry low and slow. I’ve done this many times and it has worked out just fine, but I’ve heard rumors of the wool felting, so do so at your own risk! Do keep in mind that like any leather/fiber/piece of clothing, washing will wear the hide out over time, so I recommend doing so infrequently
What’s the deal with your packaging?
This is not a question I’ve received, but it’s something I feel self-conscious about. I love the idea of sending off beautiful packaging, but I love this earth we inhabit more. I don’t want to create any unnecessary waste, so I salvage/reuse whatever I can. While the outsides of the parcels I ship out are not always aesthetically pleasing, you can always expect the contents to be beautiful (and a handwritten thank you note!).
Do you accept returns?
Not at this time. I really want you to love what you order though, so please ask any questions that come to mind before you buy. I am happy to do small repairs over the life of your garment for the cost of shipping. I am happy to do larger repairs for a small fee.
Do you take on commissions?
Yes! I love collaborating. I don’t charge extra for commissions—It provides me with a sense of security to know that what I’m making will have a home. Please reach out to me with your ideas!
Do you accept trades?
Yes—when I can afford to! Please don’t be hurt if I can’t accept a trade—it doesn’t mean I don’t like what you’re offering. I just have to prioritize paying my bills first. Some months are tighter than others. Please email me at azizathemouse@proton.me to inquire about a trade.
Do you accept payment plans?
Yes—always. The way this works: we will agree upon a deposit that works for both of us. We will also agree upon intervals of time and increments of payment that feel possible for you. I love payment plans! I want my work to be accessible and I want to honor my time and skill level. So far, payment plans have felt like one way to do this. I am so humbled and grateful that people want to spend their hard-earned money on my work. Please email me at azizathemouse@proton.me to arrange a payment plan. Thank you!
Can I ask you how to tan hides over email/instagram messaging?
I am happy to answer questions that provide transparency around my process so you can invest in something that you feel excited about and can trust the quality/integrity of. I am also happy to answer questions around hide-tanning/natural dyeing/pigment making etc, that you might not be able to find the answers to after googling/doing some research. I am unwilling to elucidate the entire hide-tanning process to you online/free of charge or to answer questions that you can simply google the answers to. Please respect that I am a person, not just a resource and that I deeply value the time I get to spend on this earth.
