Bear Magic Shawl
I tried to switch up my tanning system this autumn. I left a tub of bark and three sheepskins outside under the moon one night. A bear came to visit and delicately lifted each sheepskin out of the bark, gnawed on them, and dragged them into the woods. This shawl is made of one of those sheepskins. I think the fact that this leather was touched by a bear gives it a special kind of magic. If you know me though, you know I have a deep affinity for bears.
This sheepskin shawl was bark-tanned with love and devotion by me with the help of a bear neighbor. Because my helper dragged the sheepskin through the woods, there are a few more debris than usual. They are buried deep in the fibers and will shake out over time. Please note the repairs on the leather side where my helper did some chewing. There are some tiny bald patches on the fiber side of the shawl, but the fiber is so dense, they are hard to find, even when you’re looking for them. The ties are handwoven and vegetable dyed by Reanna Alder.
If you would like to arrange a payment plan, I’d be happy to do so with you—please email me at azizathemouse@proton.me I am not accepting returns at this time, so please ask any and all questions before you buy.
