This shawl was barktanned and then indigo-dyed with love and devotion by me. The ties are made of barktanned deerskin. The dye job for this was inspired by the painted markings that shepherds use as signifiers within their flocks. To me, it feels like a secret language that connects the sheep to each other and to their shepherds. It makes the hides feel more real and more magical. I’m going to make a bigger, more colorful collection about this in the new year—this is just a teaser. The indigo looks different in different lights—it ranges from a bright blue to a more murky silvery-blue. I tried to photograph in different lights so you could see the range, but I think they’re most beautiful in person. May your season be filled with warmth, coziness, and soft light.
